Dr. Robert Pascotto, a distinguished thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon, has left an indelible mark in the field of medicine. A Creighton University alumnus, Dr. Pascotto is celebrated not only for his surgical excellence but also for his profound humanitarian contributions. As the founder of the “Heart to Heart Mission,” he has provided over 350 free heart surgeries to underprivileged communities in Santiago, Dominican Republic, exemplifying unparalleled compassion and generosity.
Recognized as one of “America’s Top Physicians” in 2005 and among the “Best Doctors in America” in 1998, Dr. Pascotto’s medical journey is marked by his training at esteemed institutions and service as a Major and Chief of General Surgery in the Air Force. His commitment extends beyond the operating room, as seen in his involvement with the Medical Alumni Advisory Board at Creighton and his establishment of an endowed Medical School Scholarship Fund.
In honor of Dr. Pascotto’s legacy, the International Perfusion Association (IPA) is proud to announce the Dr. Robert Pascotto Scholarship. This initiative is designed to support aspiring medical professionals dedicated to cardiac surgery, encouraging participation in mission trips and fostering a culture of philanthropy in healthcare.
The IPA commits $12,000 annually to this scholarship, intending to provide up to $3,000 in mission expense reimbursement for each recipient. Initially funded by the IPA’s management team, we aspire to grow this program through external donations.
This scholarship is a tribute to all those who commit their time and expertise to cardiac surgery missions. It’s an opportunity for current students in cardiac surgery related fields to experience firsthand the impact of medical philanthropy, following in the footsteps of Dr. Pascotto, a true embodiment of the Creighton spirit of making a positive difference in the world.
