Peru Mission

Salvando Corazones. Advancing cardiac care through collaboration and education.

Saving Hearts in Peru

From the September 2026 Salvando Corazones mission report.

The International Perfusion Association is proud to support Salvando Corazones and its partnership with Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo in Lima, Peru. Together, visiting professionals and local teams expand access to cardiac surgery and strengthen the skills that help sustain care.

September 2026 Mission

The 19th medical mission took place September 14–19, 2026. According to the final mission report, the combined team performed 12 cardiac operations with zero mortality during the mission.

Five operations used robotic assistance: one atrial septal defect closure and four coronary revascularization procedures. Seven conventional coronary bypass and valve operations completed the mission’s surgical work.

A Milestone in Robotic Cardiac Care

The mission reported Peru’s first robotic-assisted MIDCAB procedure. This achievement builds on the established robotic cardiac surgery program led by Dr. Julio Peralta and the teams’ shared work during the May 2026 mission.

Education That Lasts Beyond the Mission

Residents and nurses took part in lectures, model-based training, operating room teaching, and multidisciplinary case discussions. The partnership centers on local leadership, education, and continued access to treatment for patients from several regions of Peru.
