Myocardial Protection

Comparison of Cardioplegic Solutions in Coronary Bypass Surgery Over Autophagy and Apoptosis Mechanisms

This study aimed to examine myocardial damage at the molecular level in coronary bypass surgery patients, focusing on autophagy and apoptosis mechanisms. It found no significant difference in myocardial protection between Custodiol cardioplegia (CC) and Blood cardioplegia (BC) solutions, despite variations in BECLIN and CASPASE gene expressions in myocardial tissues.

Development and Validation of Scores to Predict Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation after Cardiac Surgery

This study aimed to improve the early prediction of prolonged postoperative mechanical ventilation (>24 hours) after cardiac surgery. It involved analyzing data from the ANZSCTS database, validating a modified existing prediction score, and developing the ANZ-PreVent score, which showed improved performance in identifying high-risk patients for targeted interventions.

Clinical Outcomes Following Transcatheter Mitral Valve-in-Valve Replacement Using a Meril Myval Transcatheter Heart Valve

This study reports on the outcomes of twenty patients who underwent transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve (TMViV) replacement using the Meril Myval transcatheter valve at a tertiary care centre in India, focusing on in-hospital, 30-day, and 1-year results. The findings show a 100% technical success rate, no significant leaks or obstructions, a 10% all-cause mortality at 1 year, and improved NYHA class in survivors, indicating that the procedure is safe and effective with low short-term and medium-term mortality.
